DOES ALL THE MONEY FLOW THROUGH TO PRINCESS MARGARET CANCER CENTRE FROM THE LOTTERIES?
The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation receives the revenue from all lottery ticket purchases, and, after paying expenses, grants the remaining funds to the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre to support life-saving cancer research.
Since 1996, the lotteries have granted over $700 million in net revenue to Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, enabling the cancer centre to become one of the top 5 cancer research centres in the world. The Princess Margaret lotteries are the largest source of private unrestricted cancer research funding in Canada. Ontario’s support of our lotteries has made a significant difference to cancer research and discovery and will continue to be critical as we revolutionize cancer outcomes for patients not only here in Canada, but around the world.
The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation carefully examines the risk associated with running each lottery in support of their vision to Conquer Cancer In Our Lifetime. The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) provides oversight to all charitable lotteries.and the Princess Margaret lotteries works closely with the AGCO to ensure all regulations are met. Additionally, under the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) guidelines, no tax receipt can be offered for lottery ticket purchases.
